  Why We Do It...

Quite simply, all is not good in the so-called land of plenty.  In Vancouver, as in all the world's major cities, we are heavily dependent on food imports to sustain our lifestyle.  But with more than 80% of Canadians living in cities, does it not make sense to grow our food right where we live?

Urban agriculture can contribute greatly to the food supply of our city and at the same time reduce  the environmental impact associated with modern day commercial food production.  Urban agriculture uses less energy to grow food by utilizing local resources; it reduces food miles incredibly (much of our food travels almost 2400 km to get to our plates); it helps build community; and it reconnects people to their food, to name just a few benefits.

On top of that, growing food is fun and easy!  Once your garden is established, maintenance is easy and much food can be grown for only a few hours of work each week.
